How Will Members Benefit?

This merger will bring you greater value and convenience from your credit union membership. After our credit unions are integrated, members will receive the following benefits: 

Added Convenience and Access: 

  • Three (3) public access branches and the addition of a shared branch network that includes over 5,000 credit union branches nationwide that will be available to members for access to their credit union accounts -- that adds up to convenience comparable to the country’s largest banks. 
  • Monday through Friday weekday hours and Saturday hours 
  • Many ATMs available to members as well as the addition of the Allpoint Network of ATMs, which provide free access to 55,000+ ATMs nationwide. 
  • A full service contact center with Saturday hours and message center to assist members who prefer the convenience of banking by phone or via the internet.

New Products and Services: 

We believe that members will have access to a much more comprehensive array of products and services to bring even more value from their credit union at highly competitive rates, including: 

  • Expanded checking/savings accounts including share certificates and IRA accounts 
  • Digital/Mobile Banking, including free credit scores, online bill pay and mobile check deposits Retirement/Investment services 
  • Credit cards 
  • Expanded loan products and in-house real estate services 
  • Business services, including commercial and business lending and business deposit services

Who is Securityplus Federal Credit Union?

Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, Securityplus (www.securityplusfcu.org) is a federally-chartered, full-service credit union serving more than 34,000 members with assets of approximately $500 million. Founded in 1938 to serve employees of Social Security Administration, Securityplus has evolved to serve the city of Baltimore (individuals that live, work, worship or attend school in Baltimore City, as well many additional Select Employee Groups (SEGs). Securityplus has six (6) branch locations and approximately 100 employees.

Do Both Credit Unions Support This Partnership?

Absolutely! Both organizations are very excited about this partnership and the benefits it brings our members and communities.

What is the Merger Process and Timeline?

We have completed due diligence to make sure this merger provides our members with significant benefits above and beyond what they have today. We will begin integrating the operations of the two credit unions starting Monday November 22nd, while accounts are expected to be opened/funded no later than mid-December, 2021. We will keep you updated on our progress in the coming weeks.

Can I Still Access My FIAFE Accounts?

FIAFE members can still access their accounts up until November 30th by contacting Ron Puntanen at 410-281-6231.  Ron will only be available on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. As of December 1st, 2021, FIAFE members will no longer have access to their FIAFE accounts.

Will I Need to Open a New Account With Securityplus?

You will not need to open a new account. As we integrate our systems, all existing FIAFE accounts will automatically be migrated onto Securityplus FCU's systems. We will work hard to make the integration as seamless as possible so that you may continue to conduct business as you always have.

Will My Member Number Change?

Yes. We will provide you more specific information about your account number when we integrate our credit union systems.

Will My Existing Accounts Still Be Available As a Securityplus Member?

All of the current products that you enjoy at FIAFE are also available at Securityplus. You’ll be provided with more information as we combine the two credit unions.

How Will I Receive Information About My New Securityplus Accounts?

You will begin to receive information when we get closer to system integration, which is scheduled for mid-December. As we get closer to this date you will receive communications that will have important information regarding your accounts. Account Numbers: You will receive a letter in the mail postmarked no later than Friday, December 10th that will include your new account number(s).

How Can I Make A Loan Payment?

Any loan payments that have been sent to FIAFE through US mail will be received by Securityplus and will be applied to your loan appropriately. To make a payment from a bill pay service on or after Wednesday, December 1st, please provide the updated loan number referenced on the letter you will be receiving.  The address and account number must be updated to prevent any delays in posting with the provider. Payments made from a Securityplus account can be set-up automatically or made through digital banking.  Automatic transfers that were previously set-up with FIAFE will need to be re-established.  For inquiries about your existing loan, please call our contact center on or after December 6th, 2021.

Will My Accounts Continue to Be Insured?

Yes, of course! You will absolutely continue to receive the same personalized service you do today. In fact, we’ll have the resources to offer you even better service. The primary reason for our two non-profit cooperative credit unions to explore this merger is to better serve our member-owners.

Will I Still Receive Personalized Service?

Yes, of course! You will absolutely continue to receive the same personalized service you do today. In fact, we’ll have the resources to offer you even better service. The primary reason for our two non-profit cooperative credit unions to explore this merger is to better serve our member-owners.

Will the Merger Affect Membership Eligibility?

No. The combined credit union will continue to serve all of the organizations, companies and sponsors we currently serve. It will also provide credit union membership opportunities to new communities and members that we have been unable to serve in the past.
