Securityplus Partners with Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to Empower the Next Generation

Written by | Securityplus FCU
As we honored Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, Securityplus Federal Credit Union is proud to turn celebration into action. This year, we partnered with the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MDHCC) for their 7th Annual Scholarship Golf Outing, an event that raises essential funds for Hispanic students pursuing higher education in Maryland.

Hosted at The Woodlands Golf Course, the outing brought together community leaders, business professionals, and changemakers from across the region to invest in the future of Hispanic and Latino youth. And Securityplus was honored to be part of it.

Why Hispanic Heritage Month Matters

Hispanic Heritage Month is a national celebration that shines a spotlight on the histories, cultures, and achievements of Hispanic Americans. From family-owned businesses to rising entrepreneurs, Hispanic communities are at the heart of Maryland’s innovation and growth.

At Securityplus, we recognize that representation, access, and equity go hand in hand with financial wellness. This month reminds us of our responsibility to empower communities not just in word. but in deed. Our participation in the MDHCC golf outing reflects that commitment.

Partnering with Purpose: A Day on the Green That Changes Lives

The MDHCC’s annual Scholarship Golf Outing is more than just a sporting event, it’s a powerful platform for change. Proceeds from the event go directly toward scholarships for Hispanic students throughout Maryland, helping them break financial barriers and pursue their dreams with confidence.

Securityplus joined a network of dedicated organizations committed to building a more inclusive and equitable economic landscape. For us, sponsorship meant amplifying our belief that education is one of the most transformative tools a person can have.

“Supporting the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce during Hispanic Heritage Month reflects our broader mission to empower people through financial education and access,”
Obinna “Obi” Ndukwe, Chief People & Impact Officer at Securityplus Federal Credit Union

Education is a Pathway to Financial Wellness

For many families, higher education opens the door to lifelong financial stability. Yet, the cost of college remains a significant barrier—especially for first-generation students and those from underserved communities.

By supporting the MDHCC Scholarship Fund, Securityplus isn’t just providing financial aid—we’re investing in Maryland’s future business owners, innovators, and leaders. This effort complements our broader financial education initiatives, which aim to give individuals and families the tools to make informed, empowered financial decisions.

Celebrating Community, Culture, and Economic Growth

Hispanic Heritage Month is also a time to celebrate the incredible contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to our economy and culture. Maryland is home to one of the most vibrant and diverse Hispanic populations in the country and their entrepreneurial spirit is shaping the future of our state.

Through our partnership with the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, we are proud to support this energy and momentum. Together, we’re working to uplift voices, expand opportunity, and build bridges between businesses and communities.

Our Broader Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

At Securityplus, we don’t just show up, we commit. Year-round, we engage in partnerships and initiatives that promote inclusion, education, and equity.

Whether it’s sponsoring events like this, hosting financial wellness workshops, or volunteering in the neighborhoods we serve, our team is passionate about creating real impact. We know that thriving communities are built on strong, sustainable relationships, and that’s what we strive for every day.

“Our goal has always been to make financial wellness attainable for everyone. Events like this allow us to extend that mission beyond our branches and into the communities we proudly serve.”
Obinna Ndukwe, Chief People & Impact Officer.
