On Wednesday, May 7, Securityplus Federal Credit Union stepped out of the branch and into the heart of the Baltimore community for a truly inspiring day of connection, education, and empowerment.
We were proud to be part of the Health and Wellness Fair hosted by the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute—an event that brought together experts, organizations, and residents for a day dedicated to total well-being. And we’re not just talking fitness and food (though there was plenty of that)—we’re talking financial wellness, too!
Financial Health IS Health
Let’s be real—money stress can weigh just as heavily as physical strain. That’s why our Securityplus team, including Jeff Gehris and Cheryl Wizzard, showed up to provide hands-on support and guidance with budgeting, saving, and building credit. We unveiled our Budget Toolkit and Financial Journey Map, tools designed to help anyone—whether just starting out or working toward long-term goals—take control of their finances with clarity and confidence.
From understanding your credit score to learning how to set up a budget that works in the real world, we were there to meet folks wherever they are on their financial journey. Because your wellness story should include financial peace of mind.
“At Securityplus, we believe financial health is a vital part of overall well-being,” said Jeff Gehris, our Chief Operating Officer. “We’re honored to support the community’s wellness journey—not only physically, but financially.”
Stretch, Savor, and Soothe
The fair was packed with interactive activities, and the vibes were high from start to finish! Guests joined in on wellness classes and demos like:
- Yoga & Meditation with Shavon McCown
- Reiki Sound Therapy with Sominbo Wellness
- Functional Fitness with Lift with Tiff
- Healthy Cooking Demo with Chef Brian
And yes—we may have grabbed a bite (or two) from Chef Brian’s delicious healthy cooking demo. Because wellness includes a little joy, too.
Why Events Like This Matter
The Health and Wellness Fair wasn’t just another event on the calendar. It was a powerful reminder of how interconnected our physical, mental, and financial health really are. By teaming up with UMMS and other wellness leaders, we helped bring free resources to the Baltimore community—from health screenings and fitness classes to financial education and community connections.
Looking Ahead
We’re not slowing down anytime soon. At Securityplus, we’re committed to being more than just your credit union—we’re your partner in life and well-being. Whether it’s through events like this or the tools we offer online and in-branch, we’re here to help you thrive.
